About Us
In mid–2008 a group of ensembles presenting chamber music and recitals in Adelaide collaborated to produce the first edition of the Chamber Music in Adelaide brochure. The idea was suggested by former Adelaide festival director Anthony Steel AM:
“30 years ago I used to deal with an organisation in New York that rejoiced in the name of A Bunch of Experimental Theaters Inc. It was, as its name implies, an office that handled all administration and marketing for seven leading Manhattan avant–garde theatre companies and it worked extremely effectively. A decade later, when I was in the UK as the guest of the British Council I was taken to the office of Birmingham Arts Marketing, which amongst other things produced a brochure that covered the productions of many of the peak arts companies in that town.
“I remembered these experiences when I joined the Council of Recitals Australia last year as its president. So I very tentatively floated to these twelve leading South Australian chamber music organisations the idea that we might publish a joint brochure. Why tentatively? Because of the natural suspicion that is likely to be shown if anyone suggests that groups who might be thought of as stiff competitors should collaborate in some way. I was astonished and delighted at the immediate and unanimous enthusiasm with they greeted the idea.”
Each half yearly Chamber Music in Adelaide brochure provides details of the concerts of the independently administrated and artistically–directed ensembles involved.
The CMIA Music Lovers program was launched in February 2010. Music Lovers offered discounted prices on chamber music concert tickets.
The CMIA ensembles proudly support the Test Drive the Arts program where participants in the program can experience concert performances at no cost.
Fringe Benefits is a program, working alongside Adelaide’s art scene, that helps give its members more bang for their buck by offering discounted tickets and special deals to arts and events in SA. It’s for fun-loving, free-spirited 18–30 year-olds who love to go out and have a good time. And geuss what? It doesn’t cost a cent to sign up.
CMIA receives invaluable support from Arts SA, Ngeringa Farm Arts Foundation, Linehan Scott Design, Print Solutions and MaD Promo.
