The Kegelstatt Ensemble
Since being named ‘Best New Group’ by The Advertiser ‘Oscarts’ in 2006, The Kegelstatt Ensemble has generated an ever-expanding pool of gifted and passionate young musicians who are able to work together joyfully and fruitfully in bringing great chamber music to life. We take our name from a trio by Mozart – the first to unite a single wind, string and keyboard instrument and place them on equal footing. Join us in 2010 for a journey through the magnificent chamber works of Johannes Brahms.
Brahms the Sculptor
SUNDAY 24 OCTOBER, 3PM
St John’s Church, 379 Halifax Street, Adelaide
In our final concert for 2010 we acknowledge Brahms as architect, with one of his most large-scale pieces for chamber ensemble. The G major string sextet is a huge cathedral-like work - a true exploration for audiences and performers alike. Likewise, Mozart’s G minor string quintet is of a larger dimension than the majority of his other chamber works, and is a masterpiece of contrapuntal construction. We welcome William Newbery and Ewen Bramble, who join a host of Kegelstatt regulars for this epic journey.
