Seraphim Trio

Seraphim Trio

Founded in 1994, Seraphim Trio comprises pianist Anna Goldsworthy, violinist Helen Ayres, and cellist Timothy Nankervis. The trio is celebrated for its vitality, rapport and innovative programming. Since winning the prize for Leading Piano Trio and the Audience Choice Award in the 2001 Australian National Chamber Music Competition, Seraphim Trio has performed internationally and throughout Australia. It appears regularly for Musica Viva, is frequently broadcast on ABC Classic FM, and is a regular guest at Australian music festivals. The trio maintains a robust commissioning program, and has worked with a range of Australian composers.

For the final two concerts of the Seraphim Trio’s 2011 series ‘Masterpiece’, the ensemble celebrates great monuments of the chamber repertoire by Mozart and Beethoven whilst remaining commmitted to the presentation of new Australian work.

The Romantic

SUNDAY 14 AUGUST, 2.30PM

Tchaikovsky’s sprawling and impassioned trio in A minor was composed in memory of the pianist Nikolai Rubinstein. Seraphim Trio performs it here alongside Mozart’s brilliant Piano Trio in B flat major, and Ernest Bloch’s evocative Nocturnes for piano trio.

The Romantic

SUNDAY 2 OCTOBER, 2.30PM

For its final recital for 2011, Seraphim Trio is joined by clarinettist and composer Paul Dean. We perform Beethoven’s early clarinet trio alongside a new work by Paul Dean, premiered here with the composer. The concert concludes with Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time: one of the great chamber music works of the twentieth century, that seems to transcend time itself.
